The Museum of Contemporary Art in Circular Quay celebrates Australian modern art and is conveniently situated near the CBD. Entry is free too, making the MCA suitable for all visitors.
The Museum of Contemporary Art or the MCA as it is known, is Australia's only museum dedicated to exhibiting, interpreting and collecting contemporary art from across Australia and around the world.
The site of the MCA has a rich history. The traditional owners of the land on which the building is situated are the Eora people of the Gadigal band. This site also marks the landing place of the First Fleet in Port Jackson in 1788.
The building itself was constructed in 1952 for the Maritime Services Board but was later gifted by the NSW State Government to the MCA. In November 1991 the Museum of Contemporary Art officially opened.
Nestled in between the Circular Quay ferry terminal and the historic Rocks precinct, the MCA is close to all forms of public transport and is open daily between 10am and 5pm. Free guided exhibition tours are conducted daily by MCA Volunteer Guides.
