Darlinghurst is located 1km East of the Sydney CBD and is a pretty densely populated suburb filled with cafés, restaurants and pubs. It is also home to Sydney's Little Italy.

Darlinghurst actually used to be a slum and a red light prostitution district, but in the last 20 years or so, it has undergone a huge transformation and is now known as a rather up-market and cosmopolitan area.

The main café strip here is on Victoria Street where you’ll find iconic cafés like Bar Coluzzi and Tropicana. Also here, you'll find the Green Park and on Liverpool St,
the Darlo Bar which are two of the locals favourite pubs.

But, there are also art galleries, such as Monster Children and awesome little fashion boutiques such as Alfie’s Friend Rolfe. Although Darlinghurst is not quite a shopping mecca, there are heaps of great little places to discover if you just take a stroll around.

Cosmopolitan Darlinghurst or ‘Darlo’ is the heart of Sydney’s gay scene and home to the Mardi Gras.

In the early days however Darlinghurst was more famous for it’s 1841 jail, now the National Art School and the Darlinghurst Court House built in 1835.

Nestled in between William and Oxford Streets in Western Darlinghurst is East Sydney. This area used to be a dairy farm and market garden, but now it is best known for its restaurants, pubs and the Australian Museum.

Stanley Street is Sydney’s Little Italy and a trip here isn’t complete without a visit to Bill & Toni’s, an absolute institution in Sydney. Bill & Toni’s are known throughout the city for serving awesome coffee and gelato.
